The unfettered development of wind farms threatens to cast a permanent shadow over our landscape...

Construction of a base for each turbine will involve extensive excavation and many tons of steel and concrete,
all delivered by road through
nearby villages and towns

The civil engineering works required for the construction of a wind energy project vary from site to site but normally entail the following:
-
Temporary construction compound - measuring approximately 50m x 50m
-
Wind turbine foundations (steel and reinforced concrete)
-
Areas of hard-standing adjacent to the turbine to provides a stable base on which to lay down turbine components ready for assembly and erection. This is also needed to site the two cranes necessary to lift the tower sections, nacelle and rotor into place
-
Access track construction, including onsite tracks
-
Control building – measuring approximately 6m x 6m, a control building would be constructed onsite to house the electrical switchgear, metering equipment etc.
-
Sub stations (Can be size of small house) to transfer power into the National Grid
